Operating at the hardware–software boundary

I build and lead AI-enabled products that have to work in the real world.

Founder CTO with 12+ years across embedded systems, cloud, mobile, industrialization, applied AI and distributed engineering organizations.

Selected work

Four areas I know first-hand.

I have spent much of the past twelve years on connected products, OEM delivery, engineering organizations and the support systems around them.

  1. 01

Agentic support for complex connected products

Designing support software around what the customer reports, what the product can actually show, which tools are safe to use and when a person should take over.

  2. 02

    Connected product platforms

Leading the product from electronics and firmware through cloud, mobile, manufacturing, certification, support and years of field operation.

  3. 03

    Global connected-marine and OEM delivery

Leading product, hardware and software delivery across companies and long-lived marine programs in the Brunswick ecosystem, including Mercury Marine and Navico.

  4. 04

Scaling distributed engineering through technical leadership

Experience leading an engineering organization of more than 80 people at its largest, and now working with smaller, focused AI teams.

Selected writing

Technical decisions, written down.

What I have learned about applied AI, connected products, infrastructure and leading engineering teams.

  1. 01

Application Security Cannot Remain a Periodic Exercise

OpenAI’s Astra announcement is a capability warning. The enterprise response is a governed verification loop across code, identity, configuration and running systems.

  2. 02

When Software Meets the Physical World, the CTO Job Changes

Connected products expand the CTO boundary from software delivery to lifecycle, industrialization, field conditions and long-term system operation.

12+years of founder / CTO operating experience

About

I came to the CTO role through engineering.

I started close to electronics and embedded systems. My responsibility now reaches cloud, mobile, industrialization, partners and long-term product operation. That range is useful when a local technical decision creates consequences somewhere else.
